    pH is a key value for a thriving marine aquarium as it has a direct impact on the growth of soft and hard corals, macroalgae and other biological processes. A correct pH is a must for any reef tank as it controls the acidity of the marine water and the saturation of carbon dioxide. 

    It is recommended to keep the pH between 8.1 - 8.3.

    Salifert pH Profi-Test

    The pH should not fluctuate more than approx. 0.2 within 24 hours. In the marine aquarium often the PH will be lower overnight and therefore it is recommended to keep - where possible - the refugium light for the macroalgae anti clockwise on, so that the fluctuations of the PH can be minimized.

    A too low pH can be a sign of a too low Alkalinity and/or build up of carbon dioxide in the tank. This can be solved by either increasing the Alkalinity or improving the aeration in the aquarium.

    Instructions:

    1. Add 5 ml of marine water to the test tube.
    2. Add with the bottle pH 4 drops and swirl gently for 10 seconds.
    3. Put the open test tube on the white part of the colour chart. View from above and read the corresponding pH value. 
      It might be possible that the colour is in between two different ones, then the pH value is as well in between the two corresponding values.
