It has a dense structure which offers great hiding space for beneficial hitchhikers like copepods, rotifers and thus will be a nice hunting place for Seahorses and co.

This macro algae will arrive unattached. If you prefer it already attached to a zoa cone please add the amount of cones you need HERE.

    Ochtodes Sp. Marine Macroalgae

Premium Marine Macro algae for the Planted Reef Display Tank & Refugium for sale on Live Algae UK.
Your 1st choice for clean Marine Macroalgae from Fish & Copper free tanks since 2014.

    Colouration
The Ochtodes macroalgae species will arrive at yours more brown looking, which is completely normal for it. As this macroalgae changes its colour once we take it out of the water and it comes in contact with air.
It will turn back to blue/purple normally within 1-2 days once back in the tank and adjustment to the new water and light environment.

The colouration of the Blue Ochtodes macroalgae will vary between purple to blue, depending on what light spectrum and light intensity will be provided.  Less light will let it turn more deep blue.

    Transit
As it is quite a fragile macroalgae species we will add a bit more for you than you order to account for any damage in transit or for small break ups.
This macro algae will though easily attach itself together again and to rock or similar. Please just leave it therefore in an area without a current but good light.

    Light
The Blue Ochtodes macroalgae prefers good light, but not too much. Its deep blue colour is best to reach with a 6500k-10000k light. With direct sunlight or out of the water it will turn brown.  When you receive these algae it will look brown,  but once back in the marine water it will get its colour back, varying in blue / purple shades, depending on what kind of light and how much light the Blue Ochtodes gets.

    Palatable
The whole macroalgae is very tasty for herbivore marine fishes, like the Foxfish, Tang species etc. Therefore it is recommended to keep this marine algae in a safe area for a reserve until you like to offer it as additional food to your fishes.

    Attaching
This algae will attach itself when left for example on the rock for a few days without movement. Keep an eye on floating bits of it in your tank as they will do the same when they get the chance too.

    Trimming
Whitish parts of the Ochtodes macroalgae should be removed as they are decomposing.

    Treatment
Like for most marine macroalgae a higher level of Nitrate and Phosphate, in addition to the supplement of Iron, Magnesium and Trace elements will improve the growth of this live algae.

If the macroalgae is not growing as expected a special formulated fertiliser for the marine aquarium can help to improve the growth of the macroalgae. Please find a selection of supplements for the marine aquarium HERE

    Placement
This marine algae can be either placed in the Refugium where it would need an enclosed space or in the marine Display Tank.

    Important
Please bear in mind that the dense structure of this beautiful live algae makes it much easier for hitchhikers to hide within the algae and although we dip all macroalgae before posting in a professional solution, some hitchhikers  may survive this.
If you don't want them please inspect the macro algae very closely before adding it to your tank or keep them in a  quarantine tank or similar for the start.

Our macroalgae are from fish free macroalgae tanks, although we use pictures for demonstration purposes only which will include fishes, seahorses and or corals.
We do our best to quarantine, treat and remove any unwanted hitchhikers, parasites etc from our macro algae but we can not guarantee that the algae are completely free of anything unwanted, not limited to Copepods, Rotifers, starfishes etc. This is simply because that sometimes eggs, spores, etc can remain viable but not visible and hitchhikers can still stay hidden, especially in dense algae structures, despite our strict quarantine efforts.

All macroalgae will be thoroughly dipped in a professional solution to deactivate hitchhikers as good as possible before posting. But still inspect your algae on arrival closely.
If you don't want this, please send us a message together with your order.

We highly recommend nonetheless that you properly quarantine anything new before adding it to your marine tank.

We aim to offer you the healthiest and best quality macro algae on the market, therefore, all of our macro algae comes with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Do I need to glue the Ochtodes macroalgae, or how will it stay in the bottom of my tank?

This macroalgae will attach itself within 2-3 days when it gets good light to rock etc but a drop of superglue will help to keep it in place of course faster :)

When you like to get it natural attached we recommend to leave it for this time on a small piece of rock or similar in an area without a current.
If you don't have such an area in your aquarium use some rubber band or place in-between some rockwork to hold it in place until it has attached itself.

We don not recommend just to place the Ochtodes macroalgae on the substrate, as it needs something to attach itself to stay in place.

      We hope this helps.

      Kind regards

I have received last week the algae which looked really nice to start with, But the colour has changed and it looks more grey in my tank now. My water parameters are good. I have around 5 Nitrate and 0.03 Phosphate. How do I get a more blue colou ...

Thank you for your question and we are happy that you like the macro algae. The colour of the blue Ochtodes depends of the light you provide.

It will turn more greyish when it gets a lot ( too much ) light often. We have the best experiences with full spectrum lighting, around 6500k btw.

When the Ochtodes macroalgae gets direct sunlight the algae tends to become more purple. Although this marine algae likes good light it will show a deeper blue colour under  a medium strong light. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to contact us.

My Ochtodes Sp turned brown / red ?
      Ochtodes Macroalgae turned brown

For the blue Ochtodes macroalgae, it is normal that it will turn brown, once taken out of the water and or in transit. But once back in the marine water and with the right light it will turn blue/violet again normally within a few days.

Ochtodes Macro Algae turned red / orange

When your Ochtodes turned red /orange or white it is, unfortunately, a sign that it got too much stress and that it is dying off. Often this is a sign that the water parameters are not good for it or it was too long in transit. Please remove the parts of the algae which changed to those colours from your tank, as it won't, unfortunately, recover from this. Parts which still look brown/purple/blue are good and will grow on with the fitting water and light conditions.
