With 4 different marine macro algae species out of our algae variety, you will get a great start for your very own marine macro algae tank.
They algae frags you will receive will be smaller than the single algae species we sell, but they will give you nonetheless a great possibility to successfully start your very own macro algae culture.
A perfect choice if you like to see your algae growing and thriving in your tank.
If you have algae eating fishes in your aquarium we recommend to keep them away from them for the start.
If you buy more than one of this Algae Starter Set and or in combination with another Algae Set we offer it might be that you will get the same macro algae again, although we try to avoid this.
Please have in mind that this offered starter pack will include algae which we will choose for you and that the algae shown on the picture are just an example of the selection of beautiful marine macro algae we offer within the UK.
Please note
Our macro algae are from fish free macro algae tanks, although we use sometimes pictures for demonstration purposes only which will include fishes, seahorses and or corals.
We do our best to quarantine, treat and remove any unwanted hitchhikers, parasites etc from our macro algae but we can not guarantee that the algae are completely free of anything unwanted, not limited to Copepods, Rotifers etc. This is simply because that sometimes eggs, spores, etc can remain viable but not visible and hitchhikers can still stay hidden, especially in dense algae structures, despite our strict quarantine efforts.

![]() | Question: I just have a general question I was hoping you could help with. Ive order some macroalgae from you with the hopes of growing it in my main display as a way of nutrient export and safe haven for copepods to eventually get a manadrin. But I do have a baby scopias tang my question is will he devour this by himself before it gets a chance to grow? I know every fish / tank is different just wondered what you thought as a expert on algae. |
Answer: Hi. Good morning and Thank you for contacting us. As you already mentioned by yourself all fishes are different. But from the experience and feedback we have received most Tang Fishes often go for almost all macroalgae they can find :) Especially macro algae species like the Red Grape and Ochtodes seem to be very delicious for them. A better chance of surviving seem to have algae species like Codium, Cryptonemia Crenulata, Caulerpa Prolifera and sometimes Caulerpa Racemosa ( last very much depends on the individual fish ) though. A generell rule seem to be as more soft or easy to break up as tastier. Calcareous macro algae seem to survive as well better in an Tang fish environment. Maybe it is a good idea to order our starter set, as it is the cheapest way to see what you Tang fish likes and what not ? Hope this helps. Wish you still a nice day and we are looking forward hearing from you. Kind regards Manfred Livealgae UK
![]() | Question: Hi I have a nano tank with a lighting strip which has 40 COB LED's, 7W, LUX 1900, COLOUR TEMP 7500K.. What would be the most suitable algae? |
Answer: Hi. In this case, we would recommend
![]() | Question: If you have a tank like mine with seahorses, live rock etc.. what safe clean up crew can you use ? What algae eaters will not eat the macro algae ? |
Answer: Hi Phil. Thank you for your message. With most members of the cleanup crew, you don't really need to worry about. We use in our algae tanks all kinds of snails and crabs, to keep it all clean, without any problem. Just when it comes to sea hares, conches or urchins you will become problems. My personal favourites are the spinny Star Astraea, Cerith Snail, black-legged turbo snail, scarlet red-legged hermit cran, and electric blue ones and Turbo Snail. I hope this helps.
![]() | Question: Hi, Do you post out to Belfast, Northern Ireland. Or is there an additional charge for this. Thanks, |
Answer: Hello Neil. Thank you for your interest. Yes we do post to Northern Ireland too,
![]() | Question: Are these suitable for tropical tanks? |
Answer: Hi. I am afraid | |
The parcel arrived a day late but all was well received I unpacked an followed the simple instructions and the Algae was off and running, the examples are excellent, and all are growing rapidly, the Red algae is a bit of a slow starter but has now decided to start growing.\r\nI am very pleased with the Algae and the speed at which it is growing, I have them in with Soft Corals, Hermit crabs (small) and a pair of Clowns. and all are growing beyond expectations. Thank you for your time and advice in starting this algae garden.
