New

Chaetomorpha or just Chaeto is a perfect nutrients export marine macro algae species. Often placed in the the sump it is non-invasive and fast-growing algae, which is very easy to care for. This Chaeto species is not palatable, but the main purpose it does very well, reducing the Nitrate and Phosphate levels in the aquarium water.

Chaetomorpha Chaeto Linum Marine Macro Algae

Light
The  Chaetomorpha / Chaeto marine macro algae love the light, as more as you provide as faster it will grow.

Palatable

This Chaeto algae species is not palatable and we would not recommend to add it to your fish tank display. As especially Tang Fishes might try to eat it, but can't digest it.

Attaching
Chaeto algae species are not invasive and they won't attach themselves. A great choice for the refugium for nutrients export.

Trimming
Whitish parts of it should be removed as they are decomposing. But Chaeto is a very stable macro alga, so this should hardly happen.

Treatment
Like for most marine macro algae a higher level of Nitrate and Phosphate, in addition to the supplement of Iron, Magnesium and Trace elements will improve the growth of this algae.

Chaetomorpha Linum Variations
Chaeto Linum - or often called Spaghetti Algae - are a loosely entangled group of macro algae species which are non-invasive with unbranched filaments usually between 3 and 40 cm  long.  The colour of it is varying between dark green to bright or yellowish green. It occurs in various diameter sizes ranging between 0.2 - 2.5mm.

We have a few different Chaetomorpha Linum species available but classify this non-palatable macro algae Chaeto mainly in a very thick Chaeto group, which grows medium fast but is therefore more tolerant to low nutrients in the water and where nutrients remover like Rowaphos, Carbon, Nitrate remover or other water polisher are used. and a medium thick Chaeto group which grows much faster and is therefore our recommended choice for nutrients removal. As it grows very fast it will need sufficient Nutrients to stay stable and might suffer or die off when necessary nutrients ( especially Nitrate and Phosphate ) are very low or where nutrients remover like Rowaphos, Carbon, Nitrate remover or other water polisher are used. If you prefer one of them please let us know. We recommend for Chaeto as well to maintain good Magnesium levels and dosing of Iodine and Iron.

Please note
Our macro algae are from fish free macro algae tanks, although we use sometimes pictures for demonstration purposes only which will include fishes, seahorses and or corals.
We do our best to quarantine, treat and remove any unwanted hitchhikers, parasites etc from our macro algae but we can not guarantee that the algae are completely free of anything unwanted, not limited to Copepods, Rotifers etc. This is simply because that sometimes eggs, spores, etc can remain viable but not visible and hitchhikers can still stay hidden, especially in dense algae structures, despite our strict quarantine efforts.

All macro algae will be thoroughly dipped in a professional solution to deactivate hitchhikers as good as possible before posting. If you don't want this, please send us a message together with your order.

We highly recommend nonetheless that you properly quarantine anything new before adding it to your marine tank.

We aim to offer you the healthiest and best quality macro algae on the market, therefore, all of our macro algae comes with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Question:

I have ordered some cheats from you! I’ve now just gone to place a order on some supplements as in chaetogrow to benefit and kickstart the algae it but can not find any anywhere? Do you have any idea where I could find some that is recommended?? I was going to order Brightwell cheato grow but doesn’t look like it’s available in the UK!

Answer:

Good Morning Kelvin.

I am sorry but I do not know where you could source this. We use the line from Red Sea Trace Colours with great results. What they mainly will need to grow though is Nitrate, Phosphate, with good Magnesium levels and some minor minerals which you should have normally with normal water changes enough in your tank. Iron and Iodine may be beneficial to add too, especially when you have a larger amount of macro algae in your tank.

Please be aware that if you use Rowaphos or Carbon that those can cause problems as they will remove some minor minerals unfortunately too which some macro algae will need to grow. I hope the Chaeto will grow well in your tank and should you whenever have a question please let me know. Please stay safe and well.

Question:

Hello i have question, in your facts and care instructions of the algae it shows food as palatable or not palatable. This is meaning whether the fish like to eat it or not right? Thank You

Answer:

Hi. Thank you for your question.

Yes that just indicates the fact of if it is edible or not for fishes and critters.
Please notice that all of our algae are not suitable for human consumption though. Just mentioning this as we got requests for this lately :)

Have a nice day and please stay safe and well.

Kind regards

Question:

Looking at your chaeto and looking at the sizes can’t image the sizes in my head how much would you say the 275ml is in hand size is it a small handful, a handful, or or a good handful. Or more

Answer:

Hi Scott and Thank you for your question.

The 275ml is a very good hand full I would say. When posted with the free delivery - currently suspended due to Covid 19 - we compress it and post it without air, so it will look less, But once back in the water or "hand" you won't be disappointed. Hope this helps.

When you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

questions Chris on 21/02/2018
Question:

I bought some of your Chaeto which sunk to the bottom of my refugium. Now most of it is floating with air bubbles on it, I'm wondering if that's what it does when it starts to grow?

Answer:

It could be a sign of having micro bubbles in your system maybe. Simply shake the chaeto to remove the bubbles, and attach it to some piece of rock or similar to keep it down.  Maybe you can find as well a way to reduce the micro bubbles in your sump?

questions Ben on 13/12/2017
Question:

Can I use this in my fish tank, as I don't have a sump?

Answer:

Hello Ben. Yes, sure you can use Chaeto in your Tank Display. It won't attach itself and is therefore safe to use. Although we would recommend more prettier macro algae to use in the Tank Display. Especially like the Blue Ochtodes, it looks much nicer and fishes love to nibble on it. It will attach itself, but it isn't spreading like Caulerpa macroalgae and without possible problems, as we described in the Caulerpa CASE,

Maybe you can use it in your overflow instead when you have there light too?

BTW: When we had it in our private tank our Tang tried to eat it and as he couldn't digest it, he was for a day a bit uncomfortable.
