All the algae we sell are from our special Algae Tanks setups which are kept without any fishes for a disease-free and premium quality. This said the might come with hitchhikers not limited to Copepods and Rotifers, as they love the protected environment of our planted marine tanks.
Caulerpa algae belong to the invasive
Some of the Caulerpa algae species are as well happily eaten by fishes, which provides a natural algae food source for more happier and healthier fishes. Especially the grapes of the Grape Caulerpa seem to be very tasty for algae eating marine fishes.
You might have heard about Caulerpa species going sexual, which means that when the algae die off, which is very often just caused because of too fast changes of the water parameters, like different salinity, temperature, PH or Alkalinity.
You can read more about this HERE
This said we have to say, that we have this algae species since 14 years in use, and never experienced any problems with them.
When Caulerpa is kept in the Display Tank, which will give your marine aquarium an amazing natural look, we recommend not to let it attach to the main rock work in your aquarium, as they will attach themselves very fast to it when they get the chance to. It might be very difficult to get them out of the rock work after this.
The easiest way is to keep them restrained in the substrate/ gravel, or on a single piece of rock, where it can not reach the main rock work.
Another beautiful Caulerpa
Caulerpa Racemosa Peltata comes a bit in the same direction, although it is easier to restrain than Caulerpa Brachypus, we would recommend this one as well more for the Sump / Refugium.
Last but not least a good algae for the nutrients export is Caulerpa Serrulata. This one doesn't attach itself and is one of the rare Caulerpa Macro Algae species which are noninvasive. It could be placed in the Display Tank, but it really comes to the personal taste with this one, if it will look beautiful in there.Less
Caulerpa Prolifera is a beautiful macroalgae species, offering long blades which can grow up to 20-30 cm long. The fronds are attached to a thick rhizome which will attach itself to rock which means it will need to be restricted in the tank. Caulerpa Prolifera will add a great natural look to the marine tank. This algae can adapt better to various water...
The Caulerpa Brachypus macroalgae is a much smaller growing macroalgae than its big brother the Caulerpa Prolifera marine macroalgae, with blades just 1-5cm long. The fronds are attached to a slim rhizome which will attach itself easily to rock. This is a very specialised macroalgae and more recommended for dedicated planted Reef Tanks or Macroalgae...
Caulerpa Racemosa Cylindracea is a very fast growing and beautiful looking marine macroalgae, which will give your tank a more natural look and adds a natural holdfast for Seahorses. This caulerpa macro algae is a great choice for the nutrients export, e.g. to reduce the Nitrate and Phosphate level in the tank, as it is quite a fast growing macroalgae...
The Caulerpa Racemosa Grape Caulerpa marine macroalgae is a very popular and beautiful looking macro algae species, which often get seen as the origin of Caulerpa racemosa species. It is fast growing and forms ball shaped appendages, therefore it is commonly called Grape Caulerpa. In the planted reef tank we recommend to keep it away from the main...
The marine macroalgae species Caulerpa Racemosa Peltata features quite small round or flat topped uprights, which look like little umbrellas. It is a fast growing marine algae addition which is a great addition for the planted reef tank or refugium. As it will attach itself it is recommended to keep it away from the main rockwork.
The Caulerpa Serrulata marine macroalgae species has small branched uprights with a series of flat serrated blades. It is a great alternative to some other Caulerpa species which can go sexual as it is a very hardie caulerpa marine algae . A great choice for the nutrients export.
The Caulerpa Taxifolia macroalgae has long fronds with segmented appendages which can reach up to 20-30cm in length. This marine algae is tolerant to a wide range of water temperatures but will need more light than for example Caulerpa Prolifera. This is a very nice looking macro algae which gives the marine tank a beautiful natural look.
Caulerpa Sertulariodes is a very beautiful macroalgae which develops upright feather or fern looking blades, which canreach a high up to 20cm. It can be sometimes mistaken as Caulerpa Taxifolia but it looks more filigrain. It grows well in the substrate but prefers more hard surfaces to attach to.
